Ralph Tripp, a researcher in the infectious diseases department, has received a $100,000 Grand Challenges grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Tripp is researching ways to make polio vaccines cheaply and more quickly to vaccinate people in parts of the world where the virus still produces outbreaks.

June 3, Athens Banner-Herald: Feathered assault victim on the mend after treatment at vet school. Daisy the Mallard and her ducklings came to the UGA CVM Wildlife Treatment Center from the Lovett School, where she sustained a broken leg after an altercation with a goose on the grounds of the school. After surgery, two months of aftercare and physical therapy, Daisy and her ducklings were ready to be released at Lovett June 3. Private donations to the Kate Grant Wildlife Treatment Fund covered expenses for Daisy and her ducklings.
